Oatmeal Cookies

How to make Oat Flour:

  • Add your oats to the blender or food processor. Start with 1 to 2 cups at a time.

  • Blend for about 15-30 seconds, scraping down the sides as you go.

  • Stop when you have find powdery flour.

  • Store the oat flour in an airtight container in the pantry for 3 months or in the fridge or freezer for up to 6 months.

Oat flour is a versatile and simple homemade ingredient that you can easily prepare in your kitchen, ensuring it's gluten-free and free from cross-contamination. Remember that flour's high fiber content allows it to absorb liquids more than wheat or all-purpose flour. This means you'll need to adjust the liquid amounts in your recipes when substituting oat flour for wheat or all-purpose flour. To achieve the right structure, increase the liquid ratio and add leavening agents like baking powder or soda, as well as eggs, chia eggs, or flax eggs. Start with 3/4 cup of oat flour for every 1 cup of wheat or all-purpose flour and make adjustments as needed.

Oat Flour is abundant in fiber, such as beta-glucan, as well as protein, vitamins and minerals like iron, magnesium and zinc. Oats are believed to support heart health and assist in regulating blood sugar levels.
